Prof Arlene Holmes-Henderson

Arlene Holmes-Henderson MBE is Professor of Classics Education and Public Policy at Durham University where she holds a British Academy Innovation Fellowship (2022-2024). She investigates the influence of speech education on social mobility and employability. Working at the intersection of research, policy and practice, Arlene collaborates closely with policymakers in government and parliament on levelling up through talk. She is Vice Chair of the Universities Policy Engagement Network, an expert advisor to two All-Party Parliamentary Groups and holds a research and public policy partnership with the Department for Education. She builds capacity for policy engagement in academic colleagues by delivering training at the British Academy and the Institute for Government.

Arlene’s latest book is Expanding Classics: practitioner perspectives from museums and schools (Routledge, 2023).
