Online sustainable development programme concludes its second year with six online short courses that attracted over 5,000 learners from more than 130 countries.
The Democratising Education for Global Sustainability and Justice programme, in partnership with the Bennett Institute for Public Policy, has successfully concluded its second year. Designed to tackle urgent global issues and address gaps in sustainable development law and policy expertise, the programme has made significant strides.
By the end of its second year, the iniative launched six online briefings focused on sustainable development and key international treaties. These briefings have attracted over 5,000 learners from more than 130 countries. They receive instruction from experts at the Bennett Institute, various University of Cambridge departments, and international partner organisations. The Key Essentials: The Wealth Economy, Sustainable Development and the Law briefing features Prof Diane Coyle and Dr Saite Liu from the Bennett Institute with Dr Liu offering remarks in the opening live session of the briefing.
The programme emphasises reaching learners from the least developed countries and regions most vulnerable to climate change. It collaborates with ministries in these areas to effectively target and support local learners. Notably, the programme celebrates a partnership with Sierra Leone, providing 100 bursaries to Sierra Leonean students selected by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Climate. Two visiting fellowships are also awarded to undergraduate students from Brown University and Yale University.
Aiming to democratise education on sustainable development law and policy, the programme seeks to empower future leaders and policymakers. Each briefing offers access to top-tier materials, live online classroom sessions and self-paced assessments. Learners who complete the six online briefings also become eligible for further scholarship opportunities for advanced professional development through Cambridge Advance Online.
