We are delighted to announce that Jack Sheldon will be joining the Institute in January 2018 as our latest Research Assistant, working on an ESRC-funded project – ‘Between Two Unions: the Constitutional Future of the Islands after Brexit’.
This endeavour brings together leading academic experts from a number of Universities across the UK and the Republic of Ireland, and is led by Professor Michael Keating (University of Aberdeen) who is the Principal Investigator for it. Here at Cambridge we will be conducting research into some of the key institutional and inter-governmental challenges associated with Brexit, and exploring its actual and potential impacts upon the UK’s territorial constitution.
Jack joins us from the Constitution Unit at University College London. He is currently a Research Assistant on a project exploring the options for an English Parliament, including such issues as powers, functions, structure, composition and location. Ever since the establishment of the devolved assemblies in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in the late 1990s some have proposed that England too should have a parliament of its own. The final output from the project will be a detailed report, to be published in early 2018.
Jack is also editor of the well-respected Constitution Unit blog and four-monthly newsletter, Monitor. He holds a BA in Politics from Queen Mary University of London (first-class) and an MA in Politics and Contemporary History from King’s College London (distinction).
