Julia Unwin, Former CEO of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and Advisory Council member at the Bennett Institute for Public Policy, has been made a Dame on the 2020 New Year’s Honours list for her work as a social justice campaigner.
A resident of York, and speaking to the York Press Julia Unwin said: “It’s a huge honour and I’m delighted. I have spent 40 years working in and around the charitable sector and to get an honour like this is a recognition of the important work that is done by volunteers and other groups outside of the state and the private sector.”
In her time at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation Julia oversaw the development of JRF’s comprehensive strategy to solve UK poverty – the organisation’s largest programme to date.
