Treasury Committee questions economists on Spring Budget

Professor Diane Coyle, Bennett Institute for Public Policy, was invited to give evidence.

The Treasury Committee held a series of evidence sessions to scrutinise the Spring Budget 2023 on Tuesday 21 March 2023 at the Houses of Parliament. The cross-party Committee of MPs gathered economists’ views on the measures announced in the budget.

Witnesses included: Professor Diane Coyle, University of Cambridge; Torsten Bell, Chief Executive, Resolution Foundation; Paul Johnson, Director, Institute for Fiscal Studies; Tony Wilson, Director, Institute for Employment Studies.

“It’s partly about coordination, it’s partly about scale, and it’s absolutely about consistency or rather the lack of consistency.”
