Future Governance of the UK

On Wednesday 30 June 2021, Professor Michael Kenny was a witness to the House of Lords Constitution Committee on the Future Governance of the UK.

One of the institutional weaknesses of our [the UK government's] model of devolution is that we've not really attended seriously to building a machinery to bring the different governments and heads of government together. That's a much more typical feature of other systems which have various kinds of decentralisation within them. It does seem to me that some of the very public rows might have been mitigated to a degree if such a machinery had been in use and a culture of partnership working."
