Using economics and policy to address climate change

Dr Matthew Agarwala discusses whether current policy efforts are enough to address climate change or if more needs to be done and how.

It's five years since the historic Paris Agreement when the world pledged to keep the global average temperature rise to below two degrees celsius.

The prime minister recently announced a ban on the sale of new petrol and diesel cars from 2030, and hosted a UN meeting (12 December 2020) urging countries to present revised, ambitious emissions reduction targets. 

The EU, the world's third-biggest emitter of greenhouse gases, has just committed to reduce its emissions by 55 per cent by 2030.

The UK is preparing to host COP26,the climate summit in Glasgow in 2021.
